The knitted wire represents the skill of the natives making wire nets to fish. Each skill on the Caribbean island is an art that gets forgotten or scarce as it doesn’t get passed onto the next. We preserve the knowledge and hopefully the skill so future generations can experience heritage.
As part of the Fire & Return: Spirit of Vaval SS27, this sculpture represents the inner goddess that generations of women have neglected within themselves, the sacred energy they already carried but were forced to feel shame in.
